Snow!

Well we got some more snow. Theres been about 5 inches on the ground since the middle of last week. Taryn has had great fun making snow angels and sledding. Sean didn't like the snow at first and was reluctant to wear mittens. When kids are his age snow is just a nuisance. the mittens make it impossible to use your hands. They become little penguin flippers and the snow pants make walking difficult. Add to that the fact that 5 inches of snow just about reaches his knees and going outside can be more hassle than fun. He eventually got used to the snow and now he has some fun and is definitely fun to watch. It reminds me of stories my parents would tell me about my falling over in my snow suit and just lying there like a mattress unable to bend.

no news is good news right?

so, I haven't written anything on here in a long time but I don't think anyone has been on here to read anything either.
I am coming into the final stretch of the school semester. I should be working on a paper right now. i am taking 4 classes instead of 5 next semester. I like school but I and struggling to keep up.
The kids are doing great. Taryn is going to school in the afternoons and is in a soccer league. Sean is starting to talk more and more and steph is getting into her swing at her job.
Its getting cold here. We had a couple inches of snow which has since melted but we might get a couple of inches this weekend
Manchester orchestra was in town a couple of weeks ago. We went to see them and then jeremiah came over for dinner the next day. It was really good to see him and the show was ton of fun.
well, I will get back to school work now.

raspberries!

Today we took the kids to a farm up the road and picked raspberries and black berries. They had a great time and I will post some pictures on here soon. Steph got a job waiting tables at a resort in a town called Hockley about 20 minutes away. Tonight is her first night working. Hopefully it goes well. We are hoping that the tips turn out to be as good as the manager told us. She is still going to be looking for something else that might be days instead of nights but its good to have some money coming in. We have been working all week on the basement hoping to get it finished before september. We will be tiling tonight. The plumber comes tomorrow to work on the kitchen and bath and the electrician comes next week. There is alot of electrical work to be done down there.

church hopping

we visited a church in Orangeville which is the nearest reasonably sized town (26000 pop). It was the local baptist church and there were a few hundred people. It meets in an old school and they have converted the gym to their sanctuary. Music and sermon were pretty good. The music was Passion standards, and the kids programs seem to be pretty good. A big priority is finding a place that has lots of kids and good programs for them. We are also trying to find something close by. We would like to really get to know people. It is tough checking out churches because we liked Trinity in Atlanta so much and there just doesn't seem to be anything that could compare up here.

Kite flying.

Yesterday and again today we flew kites with the kids behind the house. after an incredibly frustrating beginning with crashing kites and tangled strings we finally got the kites to fly and we had a great time. Sean had a great time holding onto the kite. He just walked around the yard holding the end of the string.

Settling In

We are now four days into our new life in Canada and we are settling into steph's parents house nicely. Paul , Steph's dad, and I had a nice trip up. We drove straight through and it took us nineteen hours. We crossed the border at Detroit and made it to Caledon by 11pm. The past few days have been busy as we have sorted through our boxes of belongings, most of which are being stored in the basement. The day before yesterday we opened a bank account and went down to the DMV to get our licenses transferred over. The people working at the DMV were quick and friendly. Points for Canada.
The kids are having a great time running all over the Reader's yard. We spent some time weeding the vegetable garden this morning. It has been in the high eighties up here with a nice breeze. So we are enjoying the weather. The house doesn't have any AC and its nice to be able to just keep the windows open and be able to stay cool.
Stephanie's parents headed up to their cabin for the next week. They have people coming to rent it in a couple weeksk and they need to get things cleaned up there after having it closed all winter. So, we have the house to ourselves for a few days. Tomorrow we are going to check out The Meeting House which is a church we have enjoyed visiting in the past.
I will try to post updates and pictures on here often. and hopefully the posts won't be too boring.
